August self-portrait
First of the month, self-portrait day, like it or not! I did this one with the charcoal powder toned paper (cream-colored pastel paper), eraser, and vine charcoal. I started with the ear, without planning the head out, and just erased and corrected with charcoal as I went along. There are problems, but I was overworking it, so I finally called a stop.
Here you look sterner than I have ever seen you - and I know this is only the fierce concentration that doing a self-portrait requires - demands! And it is certainly a strong rendition. Good on you!
ReplyDeleteYes - I often think, looking at your self-portraits, that someday you are going to have to put a comedy on disc to play while you are working so the portrait can include the happy, funny, mischievous looks you more often wear.
ReplyDeleteThat's actually a good idea! I should put on a David Sedaris book - he always cracks me up.
