Grader
I wanted to draw a machine I saw over at the road construction site that I saw the last time I was there - it was small, sleek, shiny, colorful, and looked like a Velociraptor compared to all the other big dinosaurs that were there. But when I walked over there, I didn't find it. There were even bigger machines than had been there before. This one is so long, I positioned myself so it was pretty foreshortened, and I still couldn't fit it all on the page. I started at the far left and just drew from there, after kind of planning it out in my head. I got tired of it long before I was finished.
What an impressive amount of detail you put into this grader! No wonder you got tired! I enjoyed looking at all that complexity, and if I knew more, I might know exactly what all those hydraulic cables and stuff do. I only know they control that blade underneath so it can scrape dirt roads smooth.
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy going over there and drawing the machines, when the day's work is over and nobody is around. There are signs that say "No Trespassing in Construction Zone" but joggers and dog walkers come through, so I'm not the only one skirting the law. I'm glad you could tell that the blade underneath was for scraping; I wasn't sure if it was obvious that the machine was all open underneath except for the blade. (By the way, I go on a web site that sells used construction equipment so I can find out the name of what I drew.)
ReplyDeleteYep - it's obvious. And I was wondering how you always knew; I figured it was from having had two little boys!
ReplyDeleteI think the way it doesn't fit completely on the page with a little margin just emphasizes the size and power - it makes it push at the boundaries of the page.
No, my little boys were not machine-crazy; but I am! I'm really a little boy at heart - always have been!
